Depoe Bay is the site of the world’s smallest navigable harbor. Waves run
beneath lava beds creating spouting geysers up to 60 feet into the air.
Sea caves line the scenic
rocky shoreline. The beauty of Depoe Bay’s rugged coastline, snug harbor and
easy access via Highway 101 make it one of the most popular destinations
along the Central Oregon Coastline. A sea wall runs the length of the
downtown area allowing visitors to shop or dine always with a view of the
ocean.
Depoe Bay has the smallest natural navigable harbor in the world
consisting of six square acres. It is home to the "Hole in the Wall
Gang" Coast Guard Station.
Because of its close proximity to the ocean, fisherman or whale watchers can be
from dockside to fishing in a matter of minutes.
Charters sail year ‘round for Ling Cod and 20 varieties of tasty rockfish,
plus trophy Chinook and Coho Salmon, Halibut, Albacore Tuna and Dungeness
crab during the fishing season. Depoe Bay is
fortunate to have a resident pod of grey whales which makes its home here
10 months out of the year. Visitors from everywhere come to whale watch
either from many shore observation spots or to take one of our charters
out for a closer look. There is nothing quite so spectacular as seeing
whales in their natural habitat.
The Depoe Bay Whale Center is Oregon’s newest State Park and the home of
the highly acclaimed “Whale Watching Spoken Here” program. The center is
dedicated to sharing information about whales and helping visitors to
understand and appreciate these amazing creatures.
Wooden Boat Show
Not a day goes by when the folks in Depoe Bay aren’t planning and
preparing for a festive event. In April, see the Wooden Boat Show and Crab
Feed. Watch master craftsmen build and show off their wooden boats, while
enjoying fresh succulent crab cooked right in front of you!
Memorial Day Fleet of Flowers
The nationally acclaimed Memorial Day Fleet of Flowers ceremony is an
awe-inspiring event. The flower bedecked fishing fleet sails in tribute to
those lost at sea.
